Beer Coolers, Beer Boxes, Jockey Boxes, Draft Boxes or Cold Boxes.

There are two types of Beer Boxes or Jockey Boxes. These are the Cold Plate Cooler & the Coil Cooler. Both are used in party, picnic or special event environments to quickly chill warm beer to the ideal dispense temperature of 36-38°F. Each has specific benefits and liabilities.
cold box / coil box / draft box coolers With a coil cooler, the beer is run through a length stainless steel coil that is covered with ice and water. The ice water coming in contact with the coil causes the coil to become cold, which in turn causes the beer running through the coil to become cold. The coils vary in length from 50’ to 120’ depending on the model of coil cooler. The advantage of a coil cooler over a cold plate cooler, is that the coils are longer then the tubing in the cold plate. This allows the beer a longer contact time in which to become cold. Therefore Coil coolers are recommended over cold plate coolers when it is impossible to keep internal keg temperature colder then 55° F. With a 120’ coil cooler, beer can be continuously dispensed from the faucet at 36-38° F even if the keg is at room temperature. A disadvantage is that careless handling of ice can damage the exposed coils.
cold box / coil box / draft box coolers COLD PLATE COOLERS or cold boxes - With a cold plate cooler, the beer is run through a aluminum cold plate that is covered with ice. The ice coming in contact with the plate causes the plate to become cold, which in turn causes the beer running through the plate to become cold. It is important to continuously drain the melted ice water from the cooler, and periodically push the ice down on the cold plate surface as it will occasionally bridge up and lose contact with the plate. The typical 10" x 15" cold plate has 18’ of stainless steel tubing within the plate that beer goes through. A cold plate coolers is only recommended for use when the beer temperature can be kept colder then 55°F. In such a case, beer can be continuously dispensed from the faucet at 36-38°F.

 
Tips for coil and plate cold boxes:
  • Clean with B*L*C* after every use.
  • Before disconnecting the keg, bleed off excess CO2to 10­12 psi to prevent over carbonation of any remaining beer.
  • Cold plates must be in contact with ice only (no water) in order to function properly. Coils should be kept under water with ice always present in the water.
  • Order keg connector(s) (beer taps), Jumper(s) (jumpers are beer line with nuts, nipples and washers at both ends), CO2Regulator & CO2tank. All cold boxes come with faucet(s), faucet knob(s), internal hoses, couplers, coils or cold plates.
  • Colors available are Red or Blue with White Tops but are not always available. All colors are not always available and we will substitute another color when required.

Cold Plate Beer Box

Cold plate coil boxes all come with faucets, shanks, cold plate rack, jumper line, cold plate rack and internal beer lines are included. Complete Hookup kit and CO2 Cylinder are required to function. Please order separately for your needs.
Note: A cold plate should never sit in water and the keg must be kept below 58°F. to assure a cold beer in the glass. Keep the ice compartment drained.
